How parabolic antenna works

An electromagnetic ray parallel to the axis of the parabola (In this case the y axis) is incident on the inner surface of the parabola.

Point M is the point at which the ray hits the parabolic dish. a is the angle made by the incident ray and the normal  which is perpendicular to the tangent to the parabola at point M.
Incident and reflected angles are equal.
