Explain how flow control is achieved
in a network switch ?
•Switch
port have fixed buffer capacity.
•When
buffer capacity will full packets will discarded.
•So
switch will inform the sending device not to forward any frame yet, if the
switch will congested because buffers fully occupied.
•Its
control buffer overflows.
Explain the meaning of Non-blocking
switching fabric ?
•Non
– blocking switching fabric is capable of handling the theoretical
total of all ports,
such that any forwarding request to any free output port can be established
successfully without interfering other traffic.
•There
are different types of switching fabric
like, Bus and cross point matrix.
Explain how switches create separate
collision domain?
•A
network collision occurs when more than one device attempts to send a packet on
a network segment at same time.
•If
two devices transmit simultaneously a collision occurs, and both devices
retransmit at later time.
•Collisions
decrease network efficiency.
